27 Years since we last visited the cottage : Bob and Julia Knowles
My wife and I happened upon the Cottage in November 1985. Julia was just a month away from giving birth to what turned out to be a wonderful son - Adam. Initally we only popped in for a coffee at lunch time but ended up having a full lunch - booking into a room and having dinner that evening. We left after a lovely breakfast and always said we would return. Well - we have been very busy so it has taken us a while ! but we would love to return for another evening as the Cottage has always remained very dear to our heart. We will be in touch soon in order to book a room . Can't wait ! Bob and Julia Knowles

Whilst staying in a local B&B in the area last month, we booked a table at the cottage for our evening meal on recommendation, and we're so glad we did!!Can honestly say, that this was the best & most delicious vegetarian meal that we've ever had!!! The surroundings are fabulous, the atmosphere magical, & a lovely welcome from all the staff. Really looking forward to visiting the wonderful Cottage Of Content again!

An excellent weekend : Dave John (plus 3 mates)
Just a brief email to say that from the moment that we arrived at this superb village inn (4 tired, damp and hungry bikers), we were made to feel very welcome. Richard emerged from the very busy kitchen to greet us, and to apologise that Helen couldn't be there to say hello too, because she was feeling a little under the weather. The food was very good for both our main evening meals on Friday and Saturday night, and was served with charm and efficiency by Charlotte and Rosy - two treasures - let's hope they stay as long as possible! Breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday were superb - unlimited toast, local sausages and black pudding - my mouth is watering as I write. Finally, the accommodation was homely and comfortable - exactly what we wanted, and at Ģ35 per person per night including breakfast it was remarkable value. We would all recommend the Cottage of Content (perfect name for a perfect inn) to all our friends, and some of us are already planning a return visit with our wives

Another great night : Barry & Patricia Wooding
Patricia and I stayed and dined at the Cottage on the 4th June. Another relaxing overnight stay and a good meal. This is our 3rd stay whilst Richard and Helen have been the owners. We find the whole experience very relaxing and enjoyable - its what a good country pub should be - good food, good wines and ales and most of all very good service from Richeard, Helen and their team. We shall return again. Thank you very much to Helen and Richard for making our stay an enjoyable one.

Just returned from the most fantastic birthday weekend with friends at The Cottage of Content. We can't praise the place highly enough, there were 7 of us staying at the Cottage with 2 more "hangers on" joining us for meals in the evening and all of us felt the same. The food was superb every single meal was delicous not one single complaint and that was from some very fussy eaters! The locally brewed beer had been very well cared for and many of this crew you can honestly call experts! A roaring log fire was such a welcoming sight. The accomodation was spotless and very comfortable and the owners Richard and Helen could not have been more welcoming. The breakfasts are of the same 1st class standard -don't miss out on the award winning black pudding - so luckily the Cottage is set in some of the most glorious countryside in England so we were able to walk off some of those calories along the beautiful Wye Valley. We are already planning our next visit can't wait. The Cottage is off the beaten track but very easy to find and well worth that little extra effort to get there A REAL FIND. HIGHLY RECOMENDED,

The perfect weekend : Gary Porter
We stayed here on the Saturday the 10th April with friends to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. The place is very picturesque and the room was very good. The evening meal and wine was very good and our compliments go to Richard for the excellent Sea Bream served up to my Girlfiend Denise, we all had a taste too !!. The breakfast was good and we had a lovely stroll around the area before proceeding back to Cardiff, it was so quiet and very scenic. Having gone with friends who had stayed a couple of times, we will return again soon and have already recommended the Cottage to other friends and family.

My fiancee and I had a lovely meal yesterday lunchtime. My beef and her lamb were very tender and the vegetables were beautifully cooked. Very highly recommended indeed. The Cottage of Content is a very romantic setting and your service and friendliness is terrific.

A last minute decision : Barry & Patricia Wooding
We decided to have a quick drink at the Cottage on our way home from a 4 day stay in Monmouthshire. Whilst having that drink and lunch in the garden we asked Helen if there was a room available for one night. We were both very glad that the Poachers room was available for us. We had a very enjoyable meal that evening and a sociable chat with both Helen and Richard when he had finished in the kitchen and came to the bar for a drink. A good nights sleep followed by a hearty breakfast. No menus for breakfast - you just have a chat with Richard to discuss what you would like to eat. Overall a great place to stay - very relaxed and friendly with great owners, staff and locals - good food, wine and beer. We hope to return sometime soon.

Visited for the first time Wednesday 26th August. Arrived with sister and brother-in-law for lunch. Warmly welcomed by your young lady behind the bar who also did sterling work waiting on tables. All four of us had a wonderful meal in relaxed and comfortable surroundings, finishing with the Carey Mess - which all but finished us! It was fantastic! Thank you all for a superb lunch - we shall be back.

Wonderful Pub, Brilliant staff and divine food. : The Price family
We have visited this pub five times or so in the last year and every time, it has been excellent. We held a Golden Wedding anniversary dinner last year and everything was perfect. The staff, the menu, the presentation and the availability of real ales/ciders are wonderful. Our Australian visitors recently accompanied us for dinner and were completely blown away by the whole experience. It may not be a cheap evening if there are a few of you, but at the end of the day, quality counts and you certainly get what you pay for. Well done to all the staff who help to make your evening special. Jo

birthday treat : Sandra
My partner Tom booked a table as a surprise for my 50th birthday on Thursday 23/07/2009. As well as the wonderful food and atmosphere, the staff sang happy birthday to me while serving the lovely "Carey mess" (highly recomended ). I will certainly be back and will recomend to all of my friends that they book a table and visit your lovely place themselves. Thank you for making my evening special.

A return to (excellent) form for a very special place. : David Cairns
First stayed here back in 1992 and discovered a gem. Can't remember the finer details, but the name was most apt and we said we'd come back. It was not for 11 years though and one doesn't immediately take into consideration a change of ownership, or even several changes. It was quite a disappointment I have to say, though I won't elaborate for fear of insulting the intermediate owners. So it was with uncertainty and curiosity that I phoned to see about a place to stay on our way up country. It took the most charming and friendly landlady just a very brief conversation to convince me that it was worth another try. How right she was. Of course, because she knows what an excellent place she has and can say with confidence that we must come and stay. It was easy to tell over the phone. Now I am rather a critical person and especially when it comes to food and service - I actually enjoy being able to pull a place to pieces....only quietly you understand! No such enjoyment here! Plenty of other though. If you don't like that lovely cosy small pub atmosphere with the log fire etc and the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, imaginative, freshly and superbly cooked food, extremely comfortable, well maintained and decorated accommodation, a breakfast to want to get up for and above all the whole lot provided by frindly (to a fault) people.....then I'd give this place a miss!! We were a bit late for dinner....but was that a problem? No. A small menu maybe, but alarm bells do not ring for me, except for fear of there not being something for the non meat eater in our midst, which there was of course. Small menu means not having to take stuff out of the freezer! The food was not over fussy, but well presented and so obviously freshly cooked....this was after their usual serving time too! A look at the lunch menu made us want to stay longer. I've always wanted to say this, that I have a high regard for restaurants that give you Heinz ketchup if you want some ketchup...not that catering stuff that tells you just how good the Heinz stuff is. OK so maybe you shouldn't need it, but what are chips without it....and the chips at 'The Cottage of Content' are something else! I also have a great dislike to butter in little plastic catering pots. These little touches do it for me and this pub pays attention to such detail. How come we were the only people staying there on Friday night before Valentine's Day? Beats me, but I'm glad it's a well kept secret, but sad because this means a possible further change of ownership. I hope not because these guys have the RIGHT idea. Go there and see for yourself. It's a gem again in our eyes. David, Carole and Kelsey. Thank you so much....and it didn't break the bank either!
